چکیده

The traditional Three-dimensional (3D) model for stability analysis of a large underground cavern group only includes the main powerhouse, transformer chamber, tailrace surge tank, electrical wire hall, and part diversion tunnel tailwater tunnel. Other caverns excavation are not taken into consideration, which is inconsistent with actual project. In this study, 3D Finite Element Method (FEM) model, including all cavities, simplified containing cavities were established based on We study structural characteristics during via nonlinear FEM. At same time, three numerical calculation schemes designed comparison. results show that simulated distributions stress field, deformation plastic zone two models similar, but magnitudes FEM considers generally higher than model. difference between horizontal displacements powerhouse reaches 53.72%. Therefore, from perspective engineering safety construction, it advisable to adopt when conducting simulation group.

Reliability analysis of serviceability performance for an underground cavern using a non-intrusive stochastic method

This paper proposes a non-intrusive stochastic analysis procedure for reliability analysis of the serviceability performance of an underground cavern with an implicit limit state function. This procedure is formulated on the basis of the stochastic response surface method (SRSM) and the deterministic finite element method. First, the SRSM is briefly introduced and implemented through a MATLAB c...

A Geographic Information Systems Approach to the 19th Century Excavation of Brixham Cavern, Devon, England

The oldest known spatially-explicit archaeological excavation, conducted in Brixham cave, Devon, in 1858, is reconstructed using geographic information systems technology. Two dimensional plots of individual fossil taxa and flint artefacts demonstrate the utility of the technique for elucidating taphonomy and palaeobiology. The cave served as a den for hibernating brown bears, as a den for hyena...

Splitting failure in side walls of a large-scale underground cavern group: a numerical modelling and a field study

Vertical splitting cracks often appear in side walls of large-scale underground caverns during excavations owing to the brittle characteristics of surrounding rock mass, especially under the conditions of high in situ stress and great overburden depth. This phenomenon greatly affects the integral safety and stability of the underground caverns. In this paper, a transverse isotropic constitutive...

Stability Analysis of Salt Cavern Gas Storage Using 2D Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical Finite-Element Software

Ensuring the stability and integrity of underground gas storage salt caverns is a very complicated subject due to the non-linear and time-dependent behavior of rock salts under complicated thermal and mechanical loading conditions. For this reason, pressure and temperature fluctuations in the caverns and their surrounding strata must be integrated into the analysis and the numerical tools that ...
